Research shows that the stigma of addiction keeps people from getting the treatment they need. The most difficult task is to reach the hidden segment: the ones who have trouble admitting and coming clean about their addiction.
”Addiction is a widespread problem in society today that has a great impact on the individual as well as on their families and friends. But for many in need, the step of reaching out for help is too big,” says Andreas Haglund, CEO and co-founder at Cairy.
The 12-step programme offered by AA is not adapted to an individual’s demands and expectations today. To form new healthy relationships, people with addictions worldwide need a new digital approach to group therapy which helps them to get support from the community any time they need it, even if there is no opportunity to visit offline group meetings.
Cairy is a social mobile application for people with addiction that aims to help them become and stay sober. The application combines the essence of the 12-step programme with machine learning algorithms and recent scientific advances within health psychology and neuroscience.
Cairy app offers access to an online supportive community and recovery programme functionality. Individuals can use video chats, share and discuss the experience with others while completing rehabilitative exercises and achieving specific milestones during their treatment.
In February 2018, founders and inspirers of Cairy Andreas Haglund and Per Lundberg visited the team in the Kharkiv office of SSA Group to get acquainted with and motivate the team to plan the project’s start.
In April 2019, the MVP version was released. It included posts, news feeds, chats, group video meetings, therapists and gamification functionality.
In June 2019, SSA Group team launched the stable version of the application.
The support stage has lasted for 6 months, from June 2019 till January 2020.
In February 2020, implementation of the version 2.0 started. The application was redesigned and new functionalities like recovery programs, sober counter, etc. were added.
